A Bit of Eye-Food to Help Me Write II

These sketches are from a book I found for $2 at the Saturday markets in Moruya. It’s called Historic Sydney Sketch Book and has a few different styles by varying artists who have drawn different areas of Sydney and various landmark buildings. I really liked the atmosphere in the drawings; it really helped me visualise my world.

I think my favourite is the one of The Rocks area, which is around near the harbour. The environment that my story takes place in is a dark, industrial city split roughly into two sections: one for the rich, and one for the poor. The low end of town is then divided up into four districts, one of which is the Industrial Quarter. The buildings in and near this area are shrouded in smog and clouds, and this drawing captured that perfectly.
